About

Lotus Cultural Women's League was founded in 2016 by a local group of female artists in Basra, Iraq. The organization emerged from an identified need to support educated women to be leaders advancing society for the betterment of all women, children, and community members. Today it is a cultural non-for-profit organization with a mission to provide training, advocacy, cultural promotion, and psycho-social support. It serves women, youth, children, and any community members interested in advancing the civil rights and leadership of women in society. Lotus Cultural Women League has no core funding but relies solely on individual donations and partnerships. Among its recent projects are documenting Afro-Iraqi cultural heritage, translating and publishing women’s poetry in international magazines, and working to prevent child abuse.
